Testimonials

I first learned of Dawn Smith in December 2007 after my 12 year-old Bearded Collie, Bailey became seriously ill. He is arthritic, and had been on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication prescribed by his vet. The medication certainly helped him for a while, until he developed a potentially fatal toxic reaction to the medication. He suffered from intestinal bleeding and a compromised liver. Needless to say, all medications were stopped and not only did I have an anemic, weak dog, but now he couldn’t walk. It was obvious that he would not be able to take NSAID’s thereafter, so I discussed alternatives with the vet, while doing research on my own to see how I could get my Bailey back on his feet again. I started him on joint supplements, EFA’s and a milk protein that had promising results in horses and was now available for canine use. Bailey showed some improvement, but it was clear that he was not “good enough.” I mentioned Bailey’s plight to a colleague of mine and she immediately said, “You should take Bailey to see Dawn.” My colleague had taken her Newfoundland to Dawn to treat a number of different ailments, and I had seen her dog improve greatly right before my eyes- but I didn’t know why. Without hesitation I contacted Dawn and recounted Bailey’s tale of woe. She listened carefully to his symptoms and before we even had an appointment, provided some suggestions to get Bailey feeling better until she examined him. This is the great thing about Dawn: she is generous with her knowledge, and she is able to convey it in a no-nonsense, practical way, even if you have had no exposure to Eastern medicine. And she is a genuine sensitive soul, with a great sense of humor and clearly loves animals. Indeed, Bailey was smitten right away.

Dawn keeps meticulous notes on her patients, whether they are human or canine. I recognized this when Bailey arrived for his appointment and she reiterated our phone conversation, listing all of Bailey’s symptoms, his medications, his habits – all in a way that was better than I could ever recount! After observing him and performing a hands-on exam, Dawn explained what was going on with him from both an Eastern and Western perspective. She said she would create a specialized herbal formula to treat his issues, and she also showed me how to administer acupressure on him to alleviate his symptoms. Within three days of our visit, Bailey’s herbs arrived and treatment began. It took a little while to get Bailey to eat his daily dose (salmon and yellow fin tuna finally did the trick) but within about a month, he showed definite signs of improvement. He was walking with less stress, he regained a very healthy appetite, and his coat became fuller and softer.

We recently returned to Dawn for a follow-up visit, and she was also pleased with Bailey’s progress; his formula has since been modified and I was given new acupressure points to focus on as well.

I have no doubt that Dawn’s treatment not only brought Bailey back to health, but back to life. He was a listless, sad senior before Dawn, and now, with her help, I look forward to him enjoying his twilight years much more than I thought possible.

About six years ago I asked Dawn for help with several health issues that I had. I had tried all the usual Western treatments and had no results. She worked with me on changing my diet to foods that were best for me. Then she gave me my formula of Chinese herbs and in a relatively short time my body was feeling in better balance and I was thrilled. I have just recently had her check me out again and I now have a different formula! All the issues from the past have been resolved and I now just want to keep my body healthy and fit. Preparing the herbs is an almost zen-like experience for me as I feel like I am a part of my own well-being. I am so grateful for the care and knowledge that Dawn has given me.
